The Yin-Yang Inn

As the name suggests, a Yin-Yang Inn serves as a medium between the living and the dead. In reality, it is a matchmaking agency for ghost marriages. Many people in rural areas still believe in arranging marriages between the dead, so this is where the two sides meet to make their deals. To keep up appearances, the business uses an inn as a front.

The character for “exam” is written upside down on the sign, so anyone in the know can recognize the place. It usually opens at night. If a male corpse needs to be matched with a female corpse, a white lantern is hung outside. If a female corpse needs to be matched with a male corpse, a black lantern is hung instead. White represents a male corpse, and black represents a female one. When things are too risky and business is suspended, a red lantern is hung.

I’ve written here about my experiences in the corpse-stealing trade. Good and evil are always repaid in the end, so I urge you not to do evil.
