During the Jiajing era of the Ming dynasty, the Japanese pirate leader Wang Zhi is executed, leaving behind a vast fortune. His son, Wang Haipeng, is caught in the fallout and hunted by all sides, from the martial world to the authorities. With no choice, he takes his wife and child to Japan with Mao Haifeng to escape the turmoil. Years later, Xiaofeng grows up and, by a fortunate twist of fate, becomes a disciple of the swordmaster shogun Ashikaga Yoshiteru.
