Legends of the Gods

The Biographies of the Immortals draws mainly on folk myths and legends. It depicts the struggles and changes spanning the hundreds of billions of years from Pangu creating the heavens and earth to the rise of humanity, as gods, immortals, and Buddhas seek the righteous way between heaven and earth and contend with demons, spirits, and evil monsters. To give our myths greater continuity and a more complete, systematic structure, and to free them fundamentally from the bounds of history and philosophy, I have written this work so that the culture created by our ancestors can be passed down more fully. Using relevant folk legends and historical events as the main thread, and adding a few modest deductions of my own, I venture to offer these words despite my limitations. I ask nothing more of this book than that it provide you with a little amusement in your leisure time. I hope readers will forgive and correct any inaccuracies or omissions.
