In June 195 BC, Liu Ying's father, Liu Bang, the great ancestor of the Han Dynasty, passed away in Chang'an, the capital of the Han Dynasty. Liu Bang died in Chang'an, with the posthumous title of Emperor Gao and the temple name of Taizu, and was buried in Changling.
