The Worst-Hit Zone of the Apocalypse

The apocalypse has arrived. Plants and animals have mutated, and the threats to our survival aren't just mutated creatures, but other humans too. How are we supposed to survive and face this new world? I've never learned any self-defense. How can I make it through an era like this?

The only thing that might help is the little bit of medicine I've studied. Otherwise, even a tiny wound getting infected could be enough to kill me.
