Journey to the West: Bringing the Monkeys to Cleanse the Mortal World

In the world of Journey to the West, hair clung together in sticky clumps, human flesh and skin became dust, and mountains of corpses lay amid rivers of blood, rank with the stench of death.

Demons were as savage as evil spirits, devouring all the people of Jambudvipa.

At the foot of Spirit Mountain, corpses piled up for eight hundred miles. The immortals and Buddhas paid no heed, because the pilgrimage had not yet begun.

You immortals and Buddhas are willing to let the human realm remain a living hell for five hundred years. I, Ye Xuan, refuse to wait.

If you immortals and Buddhas won't look after the human realm, then I will.

I will lead my disciples and cleanse the human realm. I don't care what demons are wreaking havoc or what reverence for Heaven and worship of Buddha you demand.

I'll slaughter them all, leaving behind a pure and peaceful human realm.

From then on, there were no demons, no monsters, no immortals, and no Buddhas in the human realm.

With five hundred years left until the Journey to the West, Ye Xuan transmigrated here carrying the power to cover the heavens with a snap of his fingers. He grew stronger by reading, grew stronger by taking disciples, and grew stronger by slaying demons.

Only in the end did he discover that killing immortals and Buddhas made him even stronger!
