Merchant Between Two Worlds in the Apocalypse

In early May, a gentle breeze stirred beneath the bright, sunny skies of Luocheng. The streets teemed with people. A young man emerged from an office building, looking utterly exhausted. The pressures of life had clearly brought him to the breaking point. He crossed the street and sat in a pavilion beside a lake, then pulled out a crumpled pack of cigarettes and lit one.

"Another job interview gone wrong."

From the young man's muttering, he seemed to be one of countless people who had failed to find work. His name was Chen Luo, and he was from Luocheng. He grew up in an orphanage and left at sixteen to make his own way in the world. Usually, children from orphanages are adopted by people who have trouble having children of their own. But Chen Luo had been very frail as a child, perhaps the reason his birth parents had abandoned him. By the time his health improved, around the age of twelve or thirteen, he was already considered too old to be adopted.
