Chapter 1

“Young master, young master, please wake up!” An anxious, frightened woman’s voice came from a room in the manor.

“Mm, who’s beside me?” Zhang Yan asked weakly, full of confusion. “Ah! The young master is awake, the young master is awake!” The woman’s anxious yet delighted voice sounded again beside him.

Zhang Yan slowly opened his eyes and looked around in confusion. He found himself lying on an enormous wooden bed. The curtains were open, and a large screen stood directly in front of him. “Where am I?”

“Yan’er, Yan’er, you’re awake? How are you feeling? Does your head still hurt? You gave your mother such a fright!” A pair of warm, soft hands gently clasped Zhang Yan’s.

“Mother? Who are you? And where am I?”
