A Mind Without Attachment

The story begins over two hundred years ago. Back then, the seasons changed, day turned to night, and people lived in peace and prosperity. Then one day, the seasons stopped changing and day stopped turning to night. The world descended into chaos. Night reigned over the continent for three years. After that, everything returned to normal, but humans, animals, and plants had undergone astonishing mutations. Later generations called those three years of utter darkness the Evernight. The year light returned to the continent was named Year One of Evernight. Some mutated humans could control wind, thunder, water, and fire; some could transform into birds and beasts; others had enhanced intelligence, strength, or willpower. All kinds of unimaginable abilities began to emerge, turning the entire continent into a bizarre and fantastical place. These mutated humans, gifted with extraordinary abilities, came to be known as Adepts. It was against this strange backdrop that Zhang Yitian began his journey of growth…
