A Prequel to Journey to the West

The Buddha foresaw that the Tang Empire would have a female emperor, so he sent his second disciple, Jin Chanzi, to pay her a visit and gave him three disciples: General Juanlian, Marshal Tianpeng, and the Stone Monkey. Since the eastern lands of the Tang Empire were caught in war and the empress had not yet taken the throne, the Buddha specially arranged a journey of spiritual purification, sending the four masters and disciples on foot to the Tang Empire. From the very beginning, the four of them were at odds and could not work together. They looked out for themselves at each other's expense along the way, causing no end of comic mishaps. Only in the end did they forge a genuine bond.
