In Huarong Path, One Slash and It's the End

Many years later,

Xu Hong recalled everything that had happened that day at Huarong Road

and said calmly:

At the time, my blade was only 0.01 centimeters from Cao Cao's throat.

But after a quarter of a breath,

I decided to spare him.

Because I wanted to show off.

Though I'd shown off plenty of times in my life,

I had to admit this was the most perfect time of all.

Because I thought,

"How dull this troubled age would be if Mengde weren't around to oppose me!"

From Xu Hong's autobiography, written in his later years.

According to reliable sources,

the real reason Xu Hong didn't swing his blade

was that he couldn't get past Cao Cao's defense in the first place!
