A Tyrant? You Were the Ones Who Begged Me to Ascend the Throne

Ye Rui transmigrates into the heir of a prince in the Great Xia Dynasty. His father dies, and after observing mourning for three years, he can go to the capital, inherit the title, and live as a carefree prince.

But then an imperial decree arrives out of the blue: the emperor has died without an heir or any brothers. According to ancestral custom, Ye Rui must go to the capital and take the throne.

Ye Rui: "Don't mess with me. I'm not cut out for this! Besides, what's being emperor got over living as a carefree prince? You can't do this, you can't do that, and every day I have to listen to you lot blabbering. What a headache!"

The ministers kneel and plead: "That is not so! Your Majesty is destined by Heaven to rule. Everything you say and do is naturally proper, and we will obey you in all things! We beg Your Majesty to ascend the throne at once!"

Several months later

The ministers protest indignantly: "Your Majesty has disregarded the rites and laws and ruled with cruelty, earning the wrath of Heaven and the resentment of the people. You are truly the greatest tyrant in all history. You must mend your ways immediately and issue an edict of self-reproach..."

Ye Rui grins. "The greatest tyrant? You were the ones who begged me to ascend the throne. You weren't saying that back then! Guards, drag them all out and execute them!"
