The Death of Bleach

They say the God of Death was a handsome, beautiful man. Unable to bear watching the dead suffer as they struggled through reincarnation, he would often secretly let them go. When his actions were discovered, God punished him: every soul he released would cost him a piece of his flesh. In the end, he became a skeleton.
