The Underworld Escort Agency: Eight Routes for the Cargo, Eight Gates for Life

As the saying goes: There are eight routes for escorting goods, and eight gates of fate.

In ancient times, escort work was all about the jianghu, and escorts often dealt with the bandits and outlaws who roamed it. But when they encountered evil spirits or strange supernatural beings, they were completely at a loss. Since there were escort agencies that did business for the living, naturally there were also agencies that did business for the underworld. Such work was many times harder than serving the living, and often cost the escorts their lives.

The eight routes are east, south, west, north, northeast, southeast, northwest, and southwest. The eight gates are Rest, Life, Injury, Obstruction, View, Death, Alarm, and Opening. These are the rules for arranging routes on yin escorts. The direction of each journey is often changed according to the escort's fate. If the route clashes with their destiny, they will never return. Each escort carries a volume of the Ten Thousand Laws of the Mysterious Gate, with different spells recorded in each one. To this day, I still have the Rest Gate volume I inherited from my grandfather. It mostly contains techniques for traveling over mountains, divining one's way, and Taoist talismans...
