The Chronicle of Qilin

During a geological period known as the Cambrian, 530 million years ago, all kinds of animals suddenly appeared on Earth in the span of just over 20 million years. They came into being almost simultaneously and developed at a rapid pace. Arthropods, brachiopods, worm-like creatures, chordates, fish, and a host of other animals with forms essentially identical to those of modern animals made their “grand debut” on Earth.

This sudden explosion was like an invisible hand giving history’s wheel a forceful shove. Hundreds of millions of years later, it seemed that era had returned... Bringing a storm of blood and destruction, it bore down on fragile humanity.

Men roared helplessly. Women wept in despair. Children waited eagerly for his return.
