The Thirty-Six Wonders: Azure Dragon's Hidden Form

The Thirty-Six Wonders are actually thirty-six divine arts and cultivation techniques.

To trace their origins, we must go back to the time of the ancient Yellow Emperor. Legend has it that the Yellow Emperor, Xuanyuan, had thirty-six extraordinary figures under his command. Each had their own special skills: they could summon wind and rain, command thunder and lightning, call upon gods and spirits, and subdue dragons and tigers. Their feats were said to be nothing short of miraculous.

But all of that comes from folk legends. Few people know exactly what the thirty-six divine arts were. In any case, with the loyal assistance of these thirty-six extraordinary figures, the Yellow Emperor defeated Chiyou's tribal alliance, then performed the fengshan sacrifice on Mount Tai and pacified the Central Plains.

After performing the fengshan sacrifice on Mount Tai, the Yellow Emperor had the thirty-six extraordinary figures record the methods for cultivating their divine arts. They were divided into six volumes, classified and named according to the sexagenary cycle and the Five Phases. They were titled Jiazi: Gold in the Sea, Renchen: Long-Flowing Water, Jisi: Great Forest Wood, Bingyin: Fire in the Furnace, Wushen: Great Post Station Earth, and Guiyou: Sword-Edge Gold. Each volume contained six wondrous arts. Those of virtue and talent were to be chosen...
