The Immortal Path Beyond the Heavens

The Buddha said: To know the causes of your past lives, look at what you experience in this life. To know the fruits of your future lives, look at what you do in this life. Cause and effect extend only three lifetimes into the past and future. Beyond that lie tens of kalpas before and hundreds of thousands of kalpas after. This cause and effect encompasses heaven and earth and spans all of time, beyond description. Here, we will speak only of the bond between a man and a woman: when the roots of their past-life connection remain unbroken, that is the cause.
