The Ming Dynasty Biohazard: Hell at Penglai

In the forty-fifth year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming dynasty, the imperial court discovered the overseas immortal island of Penglai. The Jiajing Emperor sent a fleet of dozens of ships to investigate, but no one returned alive. Only a small boat, laden with mutilated limbs and dazzling, multicolored treasures, drifted back. To save manpower, the court sent ten death-row prisoners who had fought their way to victory, each watched one-on-one by a skilled swordsman from the Embroidered Guard. Whoever brought back the elixir of immortality would be pardoned.

The assassin Xuan Xiao of the Life-Taking Sect was weary of bloodshed and longed for death. Encouraged by Liu Qie, a female member of the Embroidered Guard, he resolved to join the mission and save his wife. But when he reached the island, he found it teeming with strange monsters that attacked humans indiscriminately. Meanwhile, the other prisoners began murdering one another to reduce the competition.

At court, the Eastern Depot, unwilling to let the Embroidered Guard claim all the credit, secretly allied with the Life-Taking Sect and sent an assassination squad composed of a disciplinary thousand-household commander, a judicial hundred-household commander, and assassins from the sect to track them in secret. A storm of blood and slaughter was about to break over the mysterious immortal island of Penglai.
