Great Tang: Starting with a Marriage Alliance in Women's Clothing

Li Jingyi, son of Li Daozong, Prince of Rencheng, had an elder sister named Li Xueyan, the historical Princess Wencheng.

The Turks invaded the Tang Dynasty from the south, trapping Li Daozong in Lingzhou, while their great army set its sights on Chang'an.

Li Shimin wanted to negotiate peace with the Turks, but to his surprise, the Turkic khagan agreed only if Li Xueyan were given to him in marriage.

With no other choice, Li Shimin bestowed the title of Princess Wencheng upon Li Xueyan and sent her to marry the Turkic khagan.

On the eve of the wedding, Li Jingyi entered Li Xueyan’s chambers. That night, Li Xueyan swallowed her tears and put on a happy face, dressing her younger brother in bridal robes and applying his makeup.

Dressed as a woman, Li Jingyi calmly decided to take his sister’s place in the marriage alliance.

On the night the wedding procession reached the Turkic royal camp, the camp was filled with wails of agony, and rivers of blood ran through it. A female-dressed god of war wielded a three-foot sword, swept through the royal court, and rode a thousand miles with three thousand cavalrymen to save her father.

Thus, a legendary god of war was born!
