Impossible to Forget

"Come over here, and I promise I won't bother you ever again. Okay?"

Under a dim, dark sky, a boy stood alone beneath a streetlamp. His voice was full of pleading and despair.

The girl felt her heart tighten and her brows furrow. The playful smile on her face froze.

She looked at the boy with aching eyes, tears misting them over, then turned and ran. As she ran, she wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, then burst into sobs.

The gloomy boy was left alone. Head bowed, shoulders slumped, he pressed his right hand to his forehead. Before long, his tears flowed like a broken dam.

--

The boy fell in love at first sight, and so did the girl.

The boy humbly pleaded, asking if he could give her a hug.

The girl, overcome by her own insecurities, ran away, fleeing from the boy she loved so deeply.

The pressures of family, school, and friends weighed on her. The boy was the one who let her glimpse a ray of hope.

--

After that night, they never saw each other again.
