Where the Whales Fall in Summer

As summer solstice drew near, that slow-paced little city welcomed its own plum-rain season.

Every day, the same scenes played out in the drizzle: the pothole-ridden concrete road; the vegetable vendors by the roadside haggling with customers over a few cents; the old tricycle collecting scrap, jolting and rattling as it headed toward the far end of the road.

Rain awnings of every color, umbrellas large and small, and the misty drizzle made up her stage. Her figure seemed to dance in the rain, and her beauty was reflected in his eyes.

The boy's words still rang in her ears: "What I pursue is a dream, a dream! As long as you have a dream, you needn't fear losing your way ahead!"
