Vincent, drunk and sitting on a reef, watching waves smash apart and wash into its crevices, could never imagine that one day he would fight for his life against a tyrant with ambitions of destroying the world on a desolate planet. Nor could Vincent imagine that, just as the tyrant was about to cut off his head, the thoughts flashing through his mind would not be the bewilderment he felt after being born in Germany in 1891 and finding himself in the Marvel Universe, nor his ecstatic joy at finally getting his long-awaited "golden finger," nor the despair and stunned numbness he felt after losing the System that had been his ticket to success. Instead, he would remember a distant afternoon, and the melancholy of waving goodbye to his classmates after three years of high school. The first chapter is a little dull, but it gets better as the story goes on.
