The novel has two main lines, one dark line and one bright line.
The hidden thread is that as a witness to the country's economic development, due to factory demolition and city office buildings being developed for real estate, employees were forced to travel to the county town every day to work, thus ending the sense of distance between home and office. The pattern of urbanites going to county towns to work began. On the shuttle bus of class **, I witnessed and felt with my own eyes the expansion and opening of roads between cities and counties, the rise of the real estate market, unit restructuring, conflicts in marriage and family. The thoughts and understandings of the characters in the novel also changed subtly with the development of the times.
The bright line is that in the development process of the times, the six protagonists competed for jobs and worked hard to break through the status quo and seek promotion. In the process, they encountered various family problems and entanglements with colleagues: due to the needs of economic development, labor conflicts during the unit restructuring process; government and businessmen colluded to resell state-owned assets, resulting in the loss of state-owned assets.
