The Low-Key Top Student

Chen Yu: "Studying makes me happy. Don't anyone disturb me while I'm studying."

Chen Yu only wanted to be a low-key academic ace, happily studying at home every day. But people kept bothering him, and it was driving him crazy.

A while ago, the International Mathematical Union said it wanted to award him the Fields Medal and invited him to give a one-hour talk at the International Congress of Mathematicians.

Later, the Clay Mathematics Institute said it wanted to give him several million dollars in prize money and asked him to come collect it.

Then the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences wanted to award him the Nobel Prize...

Chen Yu found all of this incredibly annoying.

So his response to these matters was: "Mail the medals, transfer the prize money. I'm too busy for anything else."
