Every story has its own appeal. At least, it means something to the author, whether or not anyone else likes it. This book is meaningful to me as its writer. I wrote this fantasy novel about gods and demons simply because it gives me pleasure, for my own enjoyment. The novel brings together figures from Chinese myths and legends, including Investiture of the Gods, Journey to the West, Legend of the White Snake, Lotus Lantern, The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, The Fairy Couple, The Mermaid, and tales of the primordial world. They will all appear in this novel in turn, but I absolutely will not follow the primordial world's established lore. This is a novel about gods and demons from my own imagination. Here, I only want to say that Chinese mythology is difficult to organize into a coherent system. The Chinese pantheon is chaotic, with everyone telling their own version. So I will write about the world of gods and demons as I envision it. I am writing this book as a small tribute to the most revered creator goddess of China, Empress Nuwa, to show my boundless respect for the supreme Empress Wa.
This novel and its characters are entirely fictional. Any resemblance to reality is purely coincidental. Please do not imitate.
