On the fourteenth day of the seventh month, the gates of the underworld open, and all the ghosts begin coming to the human world. They can visit their living relatives or wander the streets. The fifteenth is the last day for the ghosts to return to the underworld. If a ghost fails to return by then, it will be trapped outside the underworld, and a heavenly-born child will appear.
