Black and white are impermanent, also known as impermanence. They are a pair of gods in traditional Han culture, and they are also the most famous ghosts. These two gods, holding shackles and handcuffs, specialize in catching ghosts and assisting in rewarding good and punishing evil. They are also often the subordinates of the underworld gods such as King Yama, City God, and Dongyue Emperor. In Han Chinese mythology, Bai Wuchang is named Xie Bi'an, who is tall and thin, with a white face; Black Wuchang is named Fan Wujiu or Wushe. A few people write Wujiu, short and fat, with a dark face, and they are respected as short master or eighth master. This novel and its characters are purely fictitious.
