The Ambitious Hero

A warlord is another kind of hero. The character for "xiao" refers to a fierce bird, and by extension someone brave and hard to subdue, so the term carries a negative connotation. A warlord is a mighty, valiant leader, a chieftain or champion, usually someone overbearing and ambitious. Thus, a warlord is not, as some people say, a devious and untrustworthy person, but a hero who is difficult to subdue.
