The War Dragon in the Wilderness

November 12

After three months of death-defying training, we raw recruits who had never seen real combat were finally sent to the battlefield, where history was being made. Our fate was sealed: we new soldiers were nothing but cannon fodder for the old hands to use as stepping stones. After a war, the ones who survived were always the glorious heroes. The ones who died were always foolish new recruits like us.

Sitting in the armored vehicle bound for the front, the soldiers silently inspected the weapons in their hands. I did the same. I am no god; I'm just a person. In the vast universe, I'm nothing but a speck of dust, a tiny speck of dust.

The vehicle traveled down a bumpy mountain road, passed through abandoned towns, and crossed dense forests. At last, we reached the battlefield where we were destined to die.
