The Famous Doctor of the Great Song

Zhao Lei, a veteran raised in a hospital, returns to the Northern Song in the early years of Emperor Renzong's reign. It was the world's richest and most prosperous nation, yet undercurrents churned beneath the surface. At the height of imperial autocracy, it faced the awkward problems of too many officials, too many soldiers, and too much spending. These three burdens weighed heavily on the people of the Northern Song, and reform was urgently needed.

Western Xia, the Liao, and the Northern Song stood in a tense three-way balance. Nung Zhigao had rebelled, while the Li Dynasty of Nan'an watched Lingnan with covetous eyes. Faced with a rapidly changing international situation and court officials at home who could not agree, what path would Zhao Lei take?

Governing a great nation is like cooking a small fish. Is governing the Northern Song as simple as treating a minor ailment?

He must govern the state and treat the sick!

Will he become a miracle doctor praised through the ages and revered by the people?

Or will he be a reformist pioneer condemned by everyone in his time, leaving posterity to pass judgment?

Can Zhao Lei heal a dynasty on the verge of decline?
