The Nightmare Dao

If you clock in for thirty years, the Mountain Lord will eat you. Today, I am at year twenty-nine, day 364.

At 9:15, everyone in the company fell out of their dreams at once.

This wasn't a dream. The next day, the time clock no longer recognized me. My attendance record showed that someone had worked overtime in my place until three in the morning.

Everyone in this company dreams of a mountain, with a Mountain Lord living atop it. The Mountain Lord has set a rule: anyone who clocks in for thirty years will be eaten. Before my master disappeared, he left me only one left eye and half of a technique that turns resentment into fire.

Want to stay alive? Sure. Deposit your resentment in the bank, stake your lifespan on the child inside the clock, and build up your cultivation on a pendulum swinging backward. Wait for the fourth chime to ring, and then...

Become an immortal, or watch everyone fall.
