Gourmet: The Old Street Diner Wins Over the City's Power Players

Su Yanzhao inherits a rundown little restaurant on an old street that has been in his family for generations. On the very day he takes it over, a chain restaurant giant comes to force him out, while his competitors sneer that the place is bound to close sooner or later. At his lowest point, he awakens a culinary craft passed down through his family. No flashy effects, just time-honored techniques refined over thousands of years, bringing back the long-lost flavors of everyday street food.

A bowl of humble home cooking brings diners to tears; a platter of slow-braised specialties has business tycoons and celebrated food critics lining up and waiting outside.

The competitors who tried to crush him come to challenge him, only to be utterly overwhelmed by the simple, honest flavors in a public cook-off. The giant that once tried to force him out now offers a fortune to buy the restaurant. Su Yanzhao stays in his modest little shop and refuses to expand into a chain, focusing only on making every dish well. In the old restaurant, where smoke rises from the stove, each dish captures the many faces of life, and he carves out a legend of his own.
