Doomsday Tower Defense: The Only Crossroads on the Server

On launch day, thirty million people around the world were thrown into the same survival game. Each person got one plot of land, and each night brought a wave of monsters.

Other people drew river valleys, highlands, and scrapyards. Some even drew mobile fortresses and drove off in them that very day.

I drew a crossroads.

The System put it rather politely: Congratulations, the only one on the server. All four monster tides, from four different directions, will pass through here.

In other words: other people defend one wall. I defend four. Other people get one wave a night. I get four.

I was the only person on the server who received this "gift."

They didn't know that in my previous life, I had been one of the designers of this System.

Those red warnings, those neatly aligned fields, those annotations no one could understand: I wrote them all.

So the first thing I did wasn't run. I surveyed the land. The second thing I did was take down the road sign marked D-07 and turn it over.

On the back, someone had written in pencil: 300 meters from the main road.

On the morning of the fourth day, the first car from outside stopped at the crossroads. The driver leaned out and asked how much I charged for the toll.
