When she was young, the heroine Ye Qian was classmates with the hero, Jiang Xun. He was excellent at math and consistently ranked among the top three in class, while Ye Qian always failed the subject. Later, she was seated behind him. Her English was pretty good, and Jiang Xun often asked her for help. As they interacted more and more, Ye Qian began asking him math questions, too, and gradually the two became good friends. But their happy days didn't last long: the transition to middle school was just around the corner. Ye Qian was terrified that she and Jiang Xun wouldn't attend the same school, so she spent the whole summer worrying. She was afraid they might end up at different schools, and afraid that if she did badly on the exams, they wouldn't be in the same class. She wanted to ask him which school he was going to, but felt too embarrassed. When school finally started, she was lucky enough to be at the same school as Jiang Xun. The only downside was that they were assigned to different classes. Feeling a little dejected, Ye Qian walked back to her classroom with her head down, when she suddenly spotted a familiar figure from behind. It was Jiang Xun! Ye Qian was overjoyed. They weren't in the same class, but they were close by, right next door. Because of her introverted personality, Ye Qian was ostracized, and by her first year of middle school, she had already started thinking about taking her own life...
