Torturing My Wife Is Fun for a While, Childhood Sweetheart, Run!

Everyone at school is afraid of Chen Yi, a first-year student who hangs around the school gate with a cigarette in his mouth and fights like he doesn't care if he lives or dies. His uniform is always unbuttoned, the piercing in his ear catches the cold light, and his taciturn, icy expression keeps even the upperclassmen from messing with him. No one knows that beneath his defiant exterior, the boy has a weakness: Wen Ruan, his childhood sweetheart, whom he hasn't seen in years.

They meet again beneath the plane trees on the first day of school. She's still as soft and sweet as ever. When she looks at him with earnest almond-shaped eyes and says, "Smoking is bad for you," he instinctively puts out his cigarette, the tips of his ears burning red. He used to trail after her everywhere, always slipping the last piece of candy into her pocket. After family troubles drove them apart, he built a tough-guy shell around himself, but the instant he sees her, all his defenses fall away.

He secretly takes detours to walk her home, shields her from harassers in dark alleys, and remembers every offhand remark she makes. He quietly gives up smoking and reins in his temper. When people say a delinquent isn't good enough for a sweet, well-behaved girl, he grips his pen and stays up all night studying, doing everything he can to catch up with her. All he wants is to give her a secure future.

She doesn't care about gossip. She dares to tug on his sleeve and softly call him "Brother Chen Yi," and she even sneaks him warm water when he's standing in punishment.
