On the Construction Site: A Safety Manager's Quest to Recover Unpaid Wages

Zhang Chengxun, forty-three, is a safety supervisor at a Gobi Desert construction site and a licensed safety officer.

His wife died young, and he has bound his life to safety regulations, standing firm in the wilderness like a boulder.

The uninhabited areas of Gansu are swept by sandstorms, and chaos runs rampant at the site. Going six months without pay has become the norm.

He investigates hazards and refuses bribes, but the project manager makes things difficult for him, while the site supervisor demands bribes and then falsely accuses him.

His efforts to halt work and demand rectification are blocked. A joint protest is suppressed. His coworkers stay silent, and survival is a struggle.

Chen Hao's crew goes hungry, and there is no money for his daughter's surgery. They are furious, but dare not speak up.

His reports are brushed aside. When he investigates the evidence, he is suspended, and he narrowly escapes being framed and sent to prison.

Alone in the sandstorm, he presses on, bearing threats and isolation.

Safety management is his cultivation. He has a sharp tongue but a soft heart, and all he wants is to hold the line.

When the truth is buried, he uses his own flesh and blood to launch a desperate counterattack against injustice.
