The Great Immortal Says the Immortals Killed Him; I Say It Was Murder

The immortal, patting the incense table, said that the gods had taken someone. I examined the corpse and said it was murder.

I'm Han Zheng, a forensic pathologist. No one who dies on my table can lie. Livor mortis, needle marks, and coins in the mouth all speak. The more supernatural their stories sound, the more determined I am to bring them back down to earth.

Following the number nine on the back of a copper coin, I uncovered an entire chain of people making a living off the dead.

But solving cases wasn't why I came back to this city. I left Songling when I was three and hadn't returned in twenty-three years. A birth certificate lies at the bottom of my drawer, with these two characters listed as my place of origin. I only found out three months ago that it was fake.
