Shadows of Mountains and Rivers

Shu Han was trapped in Yizhou, and its repeated northern campaigns were halted time and again by the difficulty of transporting provisions.

Lu Kan, a scholar from a poor family, possessed the supernatural art known as the Shadow Map of Mountains and Rivers. Every place he had set foot in was etched into his mind, allowing him to draw military maps unrivaled in his age.

He ventured alone into the miasma-ridden lands of Nanzhong, reclaiming wasteland for farming, making salt and smelting iron, breeding Yunnan horses, and opening trade markets. Inch by inch, he turned the wilderness into a granary and an armory. Amid spies, secret agents, and obstruction from powerful clans, he proceeded with care, using a single map of mountains and rivers to preserve peace in Nanzhong.

Years later, Zhuge Liang unfurled that map in Hanzhong and gazed toward the Qinling Mountains.

The thousand-mile supply route for restoring the Han dynasty began in Nanzhong.
