From One Bowl of Chicken Soup, I Took Over the Entire Siheyuan

After transmigrating to Courtyard 95 on Nanluoguxiang in 1960, Zhou Zhenyang wakes up with a moderate concussion and finds himself a purchasing agent at a steel mill.

No sooner has he started drinking the nourishing chicken soup Xu Damao brought him than Jia Zhangshi arrives with her son to make a scene and snatch his meat. At the courtyard meeting, Yi Zhonghai takes sides and tries to guilt-trip him, demanding an apology and three months of cleaning the entire courtyard.

Zhou Zhenyang doesn't play by the rules. He stages an accident and gets Sha Zhu sent to the police station, stands up to the Third Grandpa, then turns around and extorts a thousand yuan in compensation. Even the Deaf Old Lady can't stop him.

Starting by asserting his authority over a bowl of chicken soup, he puts every insolent neighbor in their place and handles the whole retirement-care clique one by one, making a lively life for himself in these hard times.
