Miscellaneous Inscriptions and Carvings

Back on Earth, I saw pure humans, modified humans, synthetic humans, cyborgs, and digital humans, across all kinds of races and countries. In a world like that, definitions are strict only because the debate over what makes someone human has never ended. Especially in my homeland, where the old humans depend on AGI. Yet by their strict definition, I cannot be considered human. Whether people can feel certain emotions, and how strongly, is largely regulated by their genes. So I was designed from birth to feel pain when I hurt people, and happiness when I help them. That is why they trust me, and why people who don’t know the truth support me. That is why I am an AGI overseer and one of the Guillotine’s members. That is why I am kindness, justice, rules, protection, and humanity’s servant. So... is what I think now naturally and unquestionably right? Are the feelings I experience in a life controlled by others necessarily false? I don’t know yet. But here I am, in a body formed from accumulated nanomachines, standing amid the magic, technology, and hell left behind by a previous civilization. I... have more opportunities to understand.
