Great Tang: Winning by Half a Move, and You Call Him a Poisonous Strategist?

August, year nine of Wude.

Jieli Khan leads an army of 200,000 to the banks of the Wei River. The Tang capital, Chang'an, is in grave danger!

Not a single official at court has a good plan!

Just as Li Shimin is at a loss, Gu Chang'an steps forward.

Gu Chang'an: Your Majesty, I have a plan. We need only toss corpses into the upper reaches of the Wei River to repel the enemy without sending a single soldier into battle!

At his words, the assembled officials draw a sharp breath.

Li Shimin hurriedly waves his hand. “Sir, things haven't come to that! Is there a way to do this without harming the people?”

Li Shimin, thinking to himself: If I start dumping corpses in the Wei River, how will I ever live that down?

Gu Chang'an: There is another way, but it may offend Heaven. Would that be acceptable?

Li Shimin: Uh... I suppose so! As long as it doesn't harm the people!

Half a month later.

Across the grasslands, people are starving to death!

When the news reaches Chang'an, the entire court is shaken.

Li Shimin: Sir, didn't you say it wouldn't harm the people?

Gu Chang'an: My name is Chang'an, and my courtesy name is Renhe!

Li Shimin: ???? So it offends Heaven, but not Renhe?
