The Great Jing Coroner: From the Start, I Leave the County Magistrate Dumbfounded

Lu Zheng, a recent graduate in criminal investigation, gets rejected after mocking an interviewer during a job interview. He wakes up to find that he has transmigrated to the Great Jing dynasty and become a young coroner in Qinghe County whose master has just died.

On his first day on the job, the county magistrate points to the corpse of a hanged woman and says, "Suicide by hanging. Case closed."

Lu Zheng glances at the ligature marks on her neck. "My lord, you call that hanging? She's been hung up like a side of cured meat."

Ding! Accurate quip detected. Quip points: 10.

From then on, the Great Jing county yamen has a sharp-tongued new coroner. The county magistrate berates him for finding a murder? Quip points received, and he draws the ability to remember anything he sees. A local gentryman offers him five hundred taels to settle the case privately? Lu Zheng pushes the silver back. "Five hundred taels isn't enough for a human life."

But as he solves one case after another, he discovers that the case of his master's sudden death three months ago may not be as simple as it seemed.

The dead can't speak, but their bodies can.
