The Adventures of Silly Zhu in the Siheyuan

A story set in a traditional Beijing courtyard. I don't want to write any of those messy, brainless relationship squabbles. Instead, I want to write about people doing things that break the mold against the backdrop of their era. In the 1950s, the newly founded People's Republic was starting from scratch, with everything needing to be rebuilt. Then came the nation's founding war, the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea. The ordinary residents of the courtyard may be ordinary people, but they shouldn't be endlessly caught up in schemes between neighbors or in dwelling on the darker sides of human nature. Nor should illogical plots be forced into the story. We shouldn't forget that in an era of great national development, there would be little tolerance for so much evildoing. Instead, people should do something useful for the nation and its people amid the tide of the times.

This novel and its characters are entirely fictional. Any similarities are coincidental. Do not imitate.
