American Comics: From the Start, I Go Toe-to-Toe with Superman

Leon, a poor kid playing football on the streets of San Francisco, is one day dragged into the Rock of Eternity and inexplicably inherits the powers of six gods, including Solomon, Hercules, and Zeus.

Overnight, his mortal body becomes that of a demigod, and a single cry of "Shazam" summons thunder.

But power doesn't go to his head. First, he seals off every teleportation backdoor and revokes Black Adam's access. Then he flies to the North Pole, pries open the Kryptonian ship, and pulls Superman out of his loneliness.

Think he's trying to cozy up to someone powerful?

Wrong.

He intends to bring Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and even Poison Ivy and Zatanna all onto a chessboard called the "Justice League."

A fifty-fifty start?

No, he tears the ceiling off from the start.
