Siheyuan: My Soul Travels Back to 1948, Joining Tian Zao to Make a Living

In early spring of 1948, He Yuzhu opened his eyes and found himself as Silly Zhu, who had just been swindled with counterfeit money. No System, no special space. All he could rely on was his thirteen-year-old body and the knowledge in his mind of what the coming years would bring.

Since Heaven had given him no shortcuts, he would lay his path one step at a time the hard way. He gathered the street's homeless older children around him, winning their hearts with a steamer basket of hot pork crackling buns. Then he walked through the gates of No. 5 Middle School and showed the teacher at the lectern a boy eager to study. The people in the courtyard still chased after him, calling him Silly Zhu. He kept it all in mind, waiting for the day he rose beyond their reach and could see who still dared open their mouths.

Selling buns was only the beginning, and getting into school was only the first step. His long-term plan was to study, build a reputation, and make connections, gradually pulling himself free of this alley. When the great winds rose in the future, those people might look up and see a leading figure in the arts, or the business world's richest man, He, or perhaps the name of someone on the delegates' platform whom they could no longer recognize at all.
