Siheyuan: Armed with Bajiquan, I Strike Fear into the Neighbors!

A half-room, a thin quilt: Li Silin moved into this courtyard house hoping for a little peace, but the scheming in the courtyard cut deeper than the winter wind. Moral blackmail, petty profiteering, bullying and brawling came one after another. Even the old score of his own father breaking his ribs and driving him out was dredged up to use against him.

If he couldn't avoid it, then he might as well stop trying. A pair of iron fists and the art of Baji were enough to make those neighbors with ulterior motives think twice about what they were capable of. And that wasn't even counting the coffin-sized space he carried with him. Its food supplies, replenished every seven days, weren't exactly lavish, but they were enough for him to live better than anyone else in an era of scarce ration coupons.

The neighborhood security squad job might not look like much, but in this part of town, no one could pull a fast one under his nose. Local thugs looking for trouble gave him a perfect chance to stretch his muscles. Even if supernatural demons tried to cause chaos, they'd have to ask whether the dagger at his waist agreed. No matter how hard life got, he would carve out a way to survive with his own two hands.

He only hoped no one else would come looking for trouble, because even he couldn't say for sure whether he'd be able to hold back once he threw a punch.
