Siheyuan: Leveling Up My Cooking Skills to Take the Fengzeyuan Test

In the back kitchen of Fengzeyuan, Wang Jianye had spent three years without getting anywhere near the qualification threshold. He could not even stir-fry shredded potatoes evenly. But nobody knew that a cooking skill-point System had appeared in his mind. As long as he repeatedly cooked dishes and accumulated experience, he could take any dish from beginner level straight to master. Skills that took others ten years of practice to master, he could grasp after a few tosses of the wok.

With just seven days left until the grading exam, more and more people in the kitchen were waiting to see him pack his things and leave. He kept his head down and chopped vegetables, while privately calculating how much more experience he needed to raise all ten exam dishes above the passing mark. His knife work grew smoother, his wok tossing steadier. Before long, an utterly ordinary plate of shredded potatoes left every chef in the kitchen setting down their chopsticks in astonishment.

But time would not stop and wait for him. The most gifted senior apprentice had already passed the exam with room to spare, while he still had several dishes that had not even reached the threshold. Every shift at the stove and every plate of staff food became a chance to gain experience. Before everyone decided he was doomed to fail, he had to toss his once utterly unremarkable apprentice identity into the wok and fry it to perfection.
