You Were Supposed to Fly the Plane, but You Braved a Shattered Windshield

At 30,000 feet, the cockpit windshield suddenly shattered. A minus-50-degree blast of air, driven by winds gusting at 800 kilometers per hour, tore into the cockpit. The instruments began failing one after another, and all communications were cut off. Captains Lin Xiao and Liu Changjian were trapped inside the damaged cockpit, facing an out-of-control aircraft and more than a hundred lives behind them.

Worse still, the gaping hole left the airflow free to wreak havoc on the equipment. Every jolt could send the situation spiraling completely out of control. Ground control had received the emergency code 7700, and every flight was making an emergency diversion to clear a path for the blind-flying airliner to survive.

Ahead, the turbulence zone was closing in. Oxygen masks, malfunctioning instruments, a depressurized cockpit: their time was running out by the second. Lin Xiao had to choose: turn back or press on. Every second would decide whether everyone lived or died.

The entire sky was waiting for Tianfu 8633. Waiting for it to emerge from the storm, to appear again, waiting for news that it had landed safely.
