Siheyuan: A Spirit-Fertile Field in an Ancient Well, and Stealing Qin Jingru Away

An ancient well nurtures a spirit field where everything grows at a furious pace.

In a time of scarcity, the most precious things are those you can eat. Wang Tieniu guards this well, which means he has a steady supply of grain, vegetables, meat, and medicine. While others are fretting over a handful of cornmeal, he is already figuring out how to use the grain from his spirit field to quietly secure a temporary job as a procurement clerk at the city's steel mill.

But something else is what truly catches his attention. Qin Jingru, the young woman from Qin Village, has yet to be fooled by Xu Damao. Gentle and sincere, once she sets her heart on someone, she never turns back. It would be a shame for a woman like that to end up in the hands of that drunkard. He plans to intercept her and win her over before she ever sets foot in the courtyard.

For now, the most important thing is to fill those two big wooden trunks with goods and head into the city under cover of night. First, he needs to secure that temporary job at the steel mill. As for the seedling growing more vigorous by the day in the spirit field, and the hearts in the courtyard that are about to stir up a commotion, there's no rush. There's plenty of time. He can take things slowly.
