When Heaven and Earth first formed, the clear and turbid forces separated. The clear rose to become Heaven, while the turbid sank to become Earth. Between them lay Guixu, the place where all waters returned, where all spirits met their end, and where all paths began.
At first, Guixu was no place of terror. The ancients saw it as the world's breathing hole, its navel. Every winter solstice, seven-colored clouds rose from Guixu, bearing the purest spiritual energy to nourish the entire Great Wilderness Realm.
In those days, Guixu had dedicated priests to guard it. They were known as the Xu Spirits, and they could communicate with Guixu and pray for the world's blessings.
Legend says: “When Guixu breathes, all things grow. When Guixu holds its breath, Heaven and Earth fall silent.”
